The First Judicial District Attorney’s Office works closely with local, county, tribal and state law enforcement agencies. Officers investigate crimes and gather evidence, while prosecutors review cases, apply the law and pursue criminal matters through the courts. Legal Updates
Prosecutors work with officers to provide information about developments in New Mexico law, constitutional requirements, search and seizure, evidence and other legal issues officers encounter in their work.
Case Preparation
Training and collaboration help officers and prosecutors better understand the evidence, documentation and investigative information needed as criminal cases move from investigation into prosecution.
Courtroom Readiness
Officers may also receive guidance about courtroom testimony, the judicial process and their role as witnesses so they are prepared when a case reaches court.
How the Partnership Works

Law enforcement investigates reported crimes, gathers evidence and interviews witnesses.

Prosecutors review the evidence and determine whether criminal charges are legally and factually supported.

When charges are filed, prosecutors prepare the case while continuing to work with investigators and witnesses.
